Mature Students

The Mature students' network

The Mature Students' Network brings together all mature students from across all 3 campuses.

We are a support network and a social group, focusing on raising awareness of the issues that mature students face in the University environment as well as organising activities for mature students to be involved in.

Cheyne Truman

MATURE STUDENTS' OFFICER
Health and Social Care

I am a Mature Student at the Southend Campus, studying Adult Nursing. This has been a dream of mine for a long time now and my passion is to care for those who are unwell and to support those close to them. My goal is to work in cancer/Oncology nursing and I will work hard to get there. Friends know me as a person who does not settle, someone who fights for change and am affectionately referred to as ’a world changer’. I would like to shape the future, not just for now or for 5 years to come but for future generations.

This year I will be working on more inclusive events for Mature Students, child friendly study spaces, chillout/mindfulness zones to promote self care, improving support (particularly academic, mental and well-being) and bridging the gap between the SU and Mature Students.

ADVICE & SUPPORT

Here are some places that offer great help support and advice:

COMMON ROOMS

The postgraduate and mature students' common room is a meeting space for you to use. Located in room 5.401 on the Colchester Campus, it's easily accessible from the Mathematics entrance off Square 2.

In Southend, the student common room, located in the Gateway Building (GB.2.32), provides a space to relax or study on your own or with friends.

NEED A GARAGE?

Finding a garage you can trust can be tricky and students have told us they would like to find a garage that is honest, local and will always give you the best service.

We’ve been working with Alresford Garage to get you just that.

Show your student card and get 10% off labour charge and a reduced price of £45 for an MOT at Alresford Garage.

They’ll even bring you back to campus too, for no extra cost.
