What have I done this month?
- Unfortunately, The BAME Forum did not go on as planned due to scheduling issues but will proceed as normal next term.
- BAME Nation was held on January 29th and was successful in achieving its aims. It was a career event attended by BAME students, with a panel made up of Essex alumni who gave current students greater insight into the working world and gave valuable tips and advice on what to expect in the working world. The event included a panel discussion, an opportunity for questions and answers and a networking session with alumni. Advice was given on social media presence, the importance of apps such as LinkedIn and the essence of networking, in addition to their own personal assumptions of what life after graduation would be like compared to their testaments of what the working world has been like since graduation. We were grateful to also have Smaranda from the V-Team within Promise 1 of the Student's Union who was able to provide greater information on the opportunities available through the SU and the benefits of volunteering.
- I have begun conversations with staff within the university about a proposed idea of a BAME mentoring programme including students from first year being mentored by others in final year.
What to expect next month?
- More information about the proposed BAME Mentoring programme.
