FRINTON-On-sea

Frinton-on-Sea is a small seaside town in the district on Tendring.

You can enjoy some shopping in this quiet town and peaceful beach and coastal walks.

It's only a 34 minute train Journey from Hythe. You can find out about prices here and see some of the top attractions here.

CLACTON-on-sea

Clacton-on-Sea is the largest town on the Essex ‘sunshine coast’. 

For those of you who are looking for a bustling sea side town this is for you, Clacton has a pier, golf course, arcades, theatres, seafront walks and lots of shops.

LONDON

The capital of the UK, and a diverse city of hustle and bustle. There's always somethinig to do in London with the famous Oxford Street shopping, West End theatres, landmarks such as big ben and the tower of london, or just wander the city and explore the more quiet areas of the city such as Hampstead Heath or Brick Lane.

NORWICH

If you want a taste of English history, Norwich may just be the city for you. A beautiful medieval city in Norfolk, you can discover history spanning 10 centuries. 

For those not so into history, Nowich is also famous for it's shopping, visit the quirky shops and cafes of 'The Lanes', the broads (scenic canals) and vibrant art scene.

COLCHESTER ZOO

We're lucky enough to have the 11th best zoo in the world on our door step. Colchester zoo has over 260 species to see and is only a short bus jouney away from the university. 

Prices start from £15.29 for adults and £11.89 for children.

You can travel by bus, with the 75 leaving Osbourne Street, Colchester every 30 minutes.

CASTLE PARK

If you don't want to travel too far, but still want to enjoy a bit of history and lovely surroundings, then head to Castle park in Colchester. With a norman castle in it's grounds, and beautiful gardens, this is a perfect place to spend a spring day. 

Castle Park is a 5 minute walk from the centre of Colchester and is free to enter.

COLCHESTER CASTLE MUSEUM

If history is your thing, look no further than the centre of Colchester. It is the largest Norman Castle in Europe. Built when Colchester was the capital city of Britain. A great place to spend a rainy afternoon.

ABBERTON RESERVOIR

This is a place of outstanding natural beauty, in the Essex countryside. 

Enjoy walks and panoramic views on this Essex Wildlife Nature Reserve. 

You can travel by bus in 30 minute, with the 50 and 50B leaving Osbourne Street, Colchester or 20 minutes in the car from Colchester town.

MERCURY THEATRE

The Mercury Theatre brings critically acclaimed shows to Colchester. 

This spring break you can see comedy, drama, films, live performances and activities for the whole family.

Get closer to nature, learn about habitats, biodiversity, history and climate change.

FIRST SITE

This art gallery has world class exhibitions and events by established and emerging artists. 

Over the Easter break they have a number of films and screenings available.

BETH CHATTO GARDENS

Fancy an Easter Egg hunt in beautiful gardens? Beth Chatto Gardens holds it's annual Easter Egg hunt throughout spring break, and you'll be able to look around the gardens too. 

You can travel here by bus in 20 minutes, the X76 goes regularly from Stanwell Street, Colchester.

ESSEX BOOK FESTIVAL

Essex Book Festival runs throughout March and is the perfect festival for literature lovers. There's over 60 events to choose from in over 30 venues including theatres, universities and cafes. 

Our favourite events include Michael Frayn's comic sketches, here the unviersity's EBS Lecture Hall on March 23rd at 7PM.

TREE WALK

Take a break from revising over Easter Break, explore outside and do a guided walk around the Colchester Campus, viewing all of the species of plant and tree it has to offer.
