LOUGHTON BIG PLAN
  2022-23

Last year, we asked our students to tell us what the SU should focus on -

We had meaningful conversations about change across our campus’s. This is at the heart of everything the SU does.

The icons below represent the biggest things that the SU will focus on for the year.

Food Variety on the Loughton Campus

1. Lighter healthier lunch options to be offered

Teaching Quality & Burn Out

  • Craft table at lunchtimes for staff
  • Table tennis and football kits available during breaks
  • Stress Management workshops to be provided
  • Monthly newsletter from Chris Main, the Dean, shared via email and on all East 15 related social media platforms

Greater Support for Students with Disabilities

  • Start embedding mental health and wellbeing into the curriculum to de-stigmatize mental health struggles
  • Finding new ways to market and utilize the services already in place, such as SWIS.
  • Creating Student Community Groups on the Loughton Campus so all students have a safe place to share and have their voices heard.

Cost of Living & the impending cost of living crisis

  • Push to create on-campus jobs
  • Extending the Guarantor Services to Loughton/Guarantor Scheme
  • Push to reinstate/create scholarships for E15 students (specifically MA’s and Internationals.)
  • Provide financial advice and support on budget management - especially for new students - and advice on how to reduce utility costs especially in shared accommodation where bills are not included in the rent (like managing gadgets and appliances), and effective cheap ways to stay warm during winter and stay well.

     Small Wins Already:

  • The International Buddy Scheme
  • The Freshers Fair on October 3rd
  • The Roding House Student Lounge
  • Renewed commitment from University employees to attend student performances on the Loughton campus
  • Salad bar option at lunch
