The Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Students' Network brings together all students from a BAME background.

We are a support network and social group that aims to:

  • Combat racism and discrimination
  • Raise awareness of the issues that BAME students face, and their contribution to the University and wider society
  • Provide a safe-space environment
  • Organise events that are tailored to the needs and tastes of BAME students
  • Help tackle and improve BAME students attainment gap

It is open to all individuals who wish to celebrate culture and engage with other students from across the world. The ISA ensures that all international students feel welcomed at the University of Essex by organising cultural festivities, events and trips across the UK.

The LGBT+ Students' Network brings together all students from across all 3 campuses that identify as a member of the LGBT+ community.

We are a support network and social group that aims to:

  • Enable students to come together to share information and provide support. 
  • Provide social activities and representation for the members. 
  • To ensure there is a comfortable and fully inclusive environment in which LGBT+ students can reach their full potential without fear of discrimination.
  • Provide a space to raise instances of bullying and harassment.
