Aiming to be the world’s most student centred organisation sometimes means adhering to the small print, in this instance that is the 1994 Education Act. The following code of practice highlights the SU’s responsibilities in relation to this and how it informs the University it is doing so.

  • Article of Governance

    University of Essex Students’ Union is devoted to the educational interests and welfare of its members. These Articles of Governance have been structured to give the Board of Trustees reasonable authority to manage the affairs of the Union in a professional manner. The members enjoy the right, which must be exercised in accordance with charity law, to elect a proportion of the Trustees and to dismiss all the Trustees.

  • Banning

    As your SU we want to make sure that you have a great night out when you are with us. We operate a zero tolerance approach and this is to understand our banning policy.

  • By Laws

    This document lists the By Laws of the Students' Union.

  • Complaints Procedure

    The SU works to support all of our members to have a great experience. We do realise that sometimes not everything goes as planned, so we have this Complaints Procedure to make sure we try to resolve problems as soon and as fairly as possible.

  • Rebel Policies and Procedures

    These Policies & Procedures shall apply to the University of Essex Students’ Union group known as ‘Rebel’, and this group and all its members shall be subject to its provisions.

  • Rebel Take Down Procedure and Notice

    The Rebel take down procedure is to outline the process that must be taken upon receipt of a complaint received by the SU Media Panel.

  • Safe Space Policy

    The Students’ Union commits itself to granting students a safe space in which to assemble, that in line with the policy above prevents the discrimination of students

  • Safeguarding Policy

    This policy and procedure applies to all activities of the Union or its subsidiaries, either involving or which may involve working with children and young people, up to the age of 18, and adults at risk.

    The University of Essex Students’ Union Societies Code of Conduct applies to all members of University of Essex Students’ Union Societies.

    These Terms of Reference shall apply to all University of Essex Students’ Union societies.

  • Student Volunteering Policy

    The Students’ Union actively encourages students to undertake volunteering. The Students’ Union offers many exciting volunteering opportunities from both its established VTeam program and throughout its operations including Club and Society Executive Positions. This policy outlines some important information and guidelines which all Students’ Union volunteers and staff must adhere to.

  • SU Advice Confidentiality Policy

    SU Advice understands confidentiality to mean that no information regarding a client and their use of the service shall be given directly or indirectly to any third party unless..

  • SU Advice Conflict of Interest Policy

    SU Advice is committed to working in the best interests of each of our clients on an equal and impartial basis. Every effort is made to provide full access to the service to all students. However, we recognise that there are circumstances where we cannot act in the best interests of an existing or prospective client and a ‘Conflict of Interest’ exists.

  • SU Advice Immigration Policy

    The SU Advice advisers are expected to operate within the UKCISA (UK Council for International Student Affairs) Code of Ethics for those advising international students and the OISC (Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner) Code of Standards 2016. SU Advice advisers are not able to offer advice and services relating to asylum and are only able to offer advice within our level of competency.

    Unless otherwise specified, the University of Essex Students’ Union’s Student Membership General Policy shall apply in respect of all activities, facilities and services provided by the Students' Union for Members.

  • Venues Terms and Conditions

    As your SU we want to make sure that you have a great night out when you are with us. We operate a zero tolerance approach to any form of harassment and actively encourage our customers to report anything to us.

  • Whistleblowing

    This policy is designed to enable employees or other members of the Students’ Union to raise concerns or disclose information at a higher level which the individual believes shows malpractice and is in the public interest.
