As many of us are having the same concerns right now, why not take a look at our SU Advice COVID-19 101.
SU ADVICE 101
Renting in Private Sector Housing and Want to Leave Early? You can contact your landlord or agent to try to negotiate an early release however; unfortunately they are under no obligation to release tenants from their agreements before the end of the fixed term period. Click here to our full guide on the steps you can take. SU Advice has put together a suggested template letter that you might want to use and adapt to your own situation. Download the template here.
Concerns about Summer Assessments? Alternative assessments are in place for the summer term and the ‘no detriment’ policy aims to avoid students being disadvantaged wherever possible. To understand the details click here to see Laura, our VP Education interview Madeline Eacott. If you are still concerned about alternative assessments, speak firstly with your department to find out what is being put in place and find more info here. Talk to your Course Reps, the SU Education team or contact us.
Unable to take Summer Assessments due to Extenuating Circumstances? All you need to do is complete a ‘Notification of Absence from Exam form’. The most likely outcome* is that you will be offered another opportunity to take the assessment over the summer/in the September resit period. This will be for uncapped marks and there will be no reassessment fee. See the full updated guidance for the Extenuating Circumstances procedure during COVID-19 here. (*unless there are professional body regulations that would not allow this outcome).
Able to take the Summer Assessments but feel your Performance has been Negatively Impacted due to Extenuating Circumstances? The Extenuating Circumstances form can be used. Click here to see our general guidance on submitting the Extenuating Circumstances form. The University understands that in some cases it will not be possible to provide evidence of circumstances, you won’t be penalised for this.
Questioning Third Term Tuition Fee Payment? Currently the University will not be offering any reduction or refunds of tuition fees as teaching and learning continues remotely.
Going Through Academic Offence and Student Conduct Meetings? We know it is a very difficult time and that these meetings may be particularly stressful at the moment. We can offer non-judgemental support, help you prepare for your meetings and support by attending meetings with you to ensure that you are given a fair opportunity to express your side of any situation.
Currently due to COVID-19 we are operating a remote service.
