Step into the spotlight or sit back and enjoy the talent — Open Mic Night is your chance to share, perform, and support fellow students in a relaxed, friendly space.
Whether it’s music, poetry, comedy, storytelling, or something completely unique, all forms of performance are welcome. No auditions, no pressure — just a supportive audience and good vibes.
Students who wish to perform on the night should email susouthend@essex.ac.uk with details of their performance to secure a time slot. Spaces are limited and will be allocated in advance.
Not performing? Come along anyway to cheer on your friends, discover new talent, and enjoy a creative evening together.
Open to all students. Accessible, inclusive, and welcoming.

Q: Do I need to arrive at the beginning?
A: In order to participate please make sure you arrive at the start as the event will begin promplty
Q: Do I have to stay until the end?
A: It would be best to stay the whole time to get to take part in the full activity
Q: Do I need to bring money?
A: Nope! Our events in the SU Lounge are free of charge, just bring yourself!
Q: Will there be alcohol?
A: We will provide free hot drinks and refreshments but no alcohol is permitted!
Q: Can I come by myself?
A: Absolutely! Events are a great place to meet new people, lots of students come alone and meet people
Q: When is the last entry?
A: 7::15PM. The performances will start with or without you!
