Francis Ford Coppola’s masterpiece Apocalypse Now may just be one of the most recognisable war films of all time. Lulling you into a psychedelic adventure, the film tackles themes of duty, instinct vs. morality and nature vs. civilisation. (Not to mention the film is based off Conrad’s Heart of Darkness). The total destruction of the enemy, the fullest expression of war itself, may be what it takes to end a war - a fantasy residing with main anti-hero protagonist Captain Willard throughout. But Willard must follow his orders and terminate the command of colonel-gone-rogue cult leader Kurtz. What will he do? Buckle up, this is the end.
