Introduction

Hi Everyone! I’m Victoria – your newly elected Women’s SCO! It’s been an exciting first month settling into this role, and I can’t wait to work with you all – hosting some great events, empowering women students and supporting you all throughout your time here!

Goals

My Main Goals for this month were to:

  • Increase awareness of my role as your Women’s SCO
  • Host our 1st social event to welcome all women into our community.
  • Learn more about the key issues women are currently facing around campus.
  • Gather feedback on what you’d like to see moving forward
  • Begin planning exciting future events 😊

What have I done this month?

This month, I hosted our fist chilled Women’s Social at the Atrium, featuring music requests, colouring, games, and free hot drinks. I also introduced an anonymous feedback box so students can comfortably share their ideas – this will continue at future events. Although attendance was lower than hoped, it was lovely to connect with those who came and I’m excited to build momentum moving forward.

I experienced some technical issues accessing the Women’s  Officer email and Instagram accounts, which limited how widely I could advertise the event and introduce myself to the Community. Thanks to the support from the SU, this has now been resolved. I’ll be using the Instagram actively to share updates and provide a space where students can reach out for support.

This month, I was made aware that the street lights around the Quays Bridge weren’t working, making the area feel unsafe – especially with the evenings getting darker so soon! I worked with the Estates team to ensure this was fixed ASAP to improve safety.

I also worked with Hareem, our VP welfare, on improving the provision of sanitary products across campus. We’re working to ensure bathrooms across campus are stocked regularly and that products are stored cleanly and discreetly for those who need them.

What can we expect in the next month?

On 8th December at 8pm, I’ll be hosting a Girl’s Festive Movie night. Feel free to come along and get into the Christmas Spirit!

As we reach the end of the first term, I want to wish everyone a lovely and restful Christmas break! Keep an eye out on the Instagram @uoewomensofficer for more updates in the New Year!!!
