Committees:
This month I attended the Rules of Assessment Advisory Group, where we reviewed and questioned proposed changes to the rules of assessment for courses. I also attended Senate, where a new Extenuating Circumstances Policy, which we’ve been closely involved in developing, was officially approved.
At Student Experience Committee, we raised significant student concerns about the closure of the Art Exchange, requesting clear communication to both the SU and students about any replacement activities. We also highlighted ongoing feedback about food quality, choice, and pricing across campus. I also chaired the SU’s Tackling Racism & Discrimination Committee (a subcommittee of Trustee Board), where we agreed actions to improve communication around safety measures and inclusion in Sub Zero
Projects:
Work on the Student Support Tool has progressed well after several productive meetings with the University and we are finalising the mapping of student issues to relevant support services this week (w/c 24/11/2025). Our next joint meeting will focus on how this mapping will be developed into a digital platform.
Alongside the Education team, I’ve continued pushing forward the Nursing Students Campaign. We’ve collected testimonials from nursing students, connected with other SUs across the country, and our marketing team is preparing to launch the campaign website soon.
We’re also preparing to launch a new online hub for student reps in the new year, designed to streamline information and strengthen the support available to reps.
This month I filmed content for the University’s new PGR Preparation Programme, explaining the support PGR students can access through the SU. I was joined by several PGR reps who shared their own advice for new starters. I’m also working with our PG Convenor and PGR SCO to organise a postgraduate Christmas social for December.
Other Updates:
Together with Alex and several members of our permanent staff, I’m contributing to the SU’s response to the Office for Students consultation on proposed changes to how university teaching quality is monitored and ranked.
Finally, I was delighted to speak at the Women in STEM Society event last week, where I talked about the importance of attending lectures, staying organised, and finding balance during your time at University.
