Statement on the Antisemitic Manchester Synagogue Attack

A statement from your SU President & Essex SU Jewish Society

We are devastated by the horrifying antisemitic terrorist attack that took place this past Thursday 2 October at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue in Manchester during Yom Kippur.

Our hearts are with the victims of the attack and their families, as well as with all of our Jewish students, members of staff, and the community around the UK.

Antisemitism is not and will never be tolerated on this campus. This attack and the rise of antisemitic hate incidents in this country are stark reminder of the importance of standing together in combatting bigotry and discrimination.

If you have been affected by the events, please reach out for support to the University’s Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity Service (wellbeing@essex.ac.uk) or SU Advice (suadvice@essex.ac.uk).

If you are a witness or are the subject of an antisemitic incident, please make sure to report this immediately through Report + Support.
