ABOUT OUR CLUB
The University of Essex Climbing Club is a vibrant student-led society that caters to climbers of all levels, from complete beginners to seasoned pros. The club offers a friendly and inclusive environment where students can develop their climbing skills, make new friends, and experience the thrill of climbing in various settings. Why not join us? :)
Indoor Climbing Sessions:
We hold weekly sessions at the University of Essex Climbing Wall (what3words: brain.tins.grin). Please scroll down to the yellow boxes to see more info!
If you can't make these sessions, lots of our members choose to boulder at Colchester Climbing Project (CCP).
PLEASE NOTE: CCP is a seperate entity from The Univerity of Essex, and entry requires a seperate membership or day pass that must be paid to CCP.
Outdoor Climbing Trips:
Our Club is known for its exciting outdoor trips. These trips typically take place on weekends and during university breaks, offering members the chance to climb in some of the UK's most renowned climbing destinations.
Previous trip have included the Peak District, North Wales, Dorset and El Chorro. These trips are an excellent opportunity to experience real rock climbing, enjoy the great outdoors, and bond with other members.
UECC is more than just climbing ...
Regular socials include bouldering at CCP, quiz nights at the SU, BBQs and lakeside coffee meet-ups. These events are relaxed and fun, making them a great way to unwind and make new friends. This year we are looking forward to our Halloween and Christmas Socials, but please make sure to stay updated via our Instagram or Whatsapp chat to make sure you don't miss out on any of our other events!
Workshops
Climbing workshops, such as "Learn to be Competent" on Tuesday evenings, are organised to help members become more knowledgeable and self-sufficient climbers. We have student instructors, who are certified Climbing Wall Instructors (CWI), on hand to help teach you the ins and outs of climbing. Expect to learn about tying into rope, belaying and basic wall safety.
We look forward to sending more students to complete their CWI this year, in order to help the club run more sessions like these in the future! If interested, please ask any of the Exec Committee in-person or via our social medias.
Inclusivity and Community
The University of Essex Climbing Club prides itself on being inclusive and welcoming to everyone, regardless of experience or background. The club's motto is "Everyone can climb", reflecting its commitment to making climbing accessible to all students. Whether you're looking to improve your climbing, make lifelong friends, or simply try something new, the Essex University Climbing Club offers a supportive and fun environment for all.
The community spirit within the club is strong, with members often forming close-knit friendships that extend beyond university life.
