Welcome to the Labour Society Home Page

Welcome to the University of Essex Labour Students: a society for students who are members or supporters of the Labour Party. It doesn’t matter if you've been a member of the party all your life or if you've only just developed an interest in politics and are curious about Labour and our values, we're open to everyone.

The Labour society is part of the Political convene of Societies Guild and affiliated with the National Labour Students movement ( We hold regular socials, have guest speakers and go out campaigning. Essex Labour Students is a great place to get involved with local and national politics, as well as meet like-minded people, and help create a country that benefits the many.

We are affiliated with Labour Students nationally, which means we go to events and conferences held by them, and in turn they support us throughout the year. We also have close links with the Colchester Labour Party. If you would like to be part of the Colchester Labour Party make sure you update your address on the Labour website.

For information on upcoming activities and future events please contact the society committee at the bottom of the page or consult our Facebook group page at The Society welcomes all students and staff at the advertised membership below. Non-students and students at other institutions should contact the Sports and Societies Office ( for details on how to join.

When Do We Meet?

We have weekly meetings and socials on Tuesday 7:00pm (this can change depending on the meeting, make sure you become a member to keep updated, or check our Facebook page regularly). Please come along to see what we get up to and get involved. If you've got any questions, don't be afraid to ask them either on the Facebook group wall or by sending a message to any of our exec.

We have regular topical discussions and are a campaigning force in local and national elections - but on top of that, we're not all just about politics, with regular socials and trips planned throughout the term. Even if you feel you aren't a committed member or a party fanatic, don't let that put you off: come along to one of our meetings or socials to see what we're all about.

If you have any questions or want to know more about what we do, please contact our President Sarah Ryder at
