The Students’ Union at Essex is on a mission to become the world’s most student-centred organisation. It sounds bold, and it is. But we believe that every single one of our 17,000 members deserve nothing less. We’re dedicated to helping students have the best experience possible at the University of Essex. And we’re pretty good at it too. Students ranked us as 7th best Students’ Union in the country in the annual Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2023, the 5th year in a row we’ve been voted in the top 10. FLEXIBLE WORKING
The majority of us work Monday to Friday from our main Colchester campus, with a smaller team based at our Southend campus. But we’re open to chatting about what you need, as long as it works for you, your team and the wider organisation.
THE SOCIAL STUFF
We’re a very social organisation, running everything from staff 5-aside football teams to a run club and regular 4pm finishes in SU Bar - getting your work-life balance right is really important to us.
KEEPING THE BALANCE
We believe that in order to work hard, you need to play hard too. So, whatever it is you like to do in your spare time, we offer plenty of opportunities for you to do it! We shut down between Christmas and New Year (no, you don’t have to take this as holiday), you get your birthday off as a bonus and you can earn additional days off through our volunteering scheme.
COMPANY GET TOGETHERS
We get together EVERY Monday morning to review the previous week, discuss the upcoming week and celebrate long service milestones, birthdays and special occasions.
We also have a big party at Christmas and celebrate your achievements at the SU Staff Awards in the Summer.
