We are recruiting for 2 Caseworker positions (10 hours per week during term time) to join our small and friendly SU Advice team.


The role would suit those who are keen to help others and those wishing to gain experience in advice/support roles (such as Law, Social Work).


You will receive training in the different areas of advice we can provide as well as experience of interviewing and active listening in an advice based setting.


Engagement Angels play a vital part of the SU and for our members, by providing incredible services, events and campaigns to our students and using SU angels to both create and deliver events will mean that Students’ Union will be more student led than ever before.


Working based on student feedback, the main aims of the SU Angels are to bring students together, genuinely build thriving communities, reduce isolation, improve communication and run activities and events.


This role would suit an outgoing and sociable student who has or is looking to develop project management experience.

The team that oversee the Leadership Race, Parliament and the Big Plan are looking for someone to provide administrative support.

The Faculty Convenor will report to the Education Manager, collecting feedback fand representing the views of students in their Faculty at all required University meetings.


The Faculty Convenor will engage in research to ensure that they are aware of wider issues that may affect students in their Faculty.


The Faculty Convenor will work closely with Departments, attend regular university meetings and support the VP Education and the Students’ Union to deliver our mission for the year.


As a SU Creative Studios Technician, you will provide technical support for all users of the SU Creative Studios.


You’ll work closely with the Heads of Editorial, Video Radio and all contributors, providing technical support as required.


Based at the Reception desk in the studios, you will also help to coordinate all bookings for the Creative Studios, including studios and equipment. You will be responsible for inducting new members to use the Creative Studios, and leading training sessions with them. You will also assist with general admin related to Rebel and the Creative Studios. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, you will also supervise that all users are conforming to covid guidelines whilst using the space and carrying out basic cleaning of high-traffic areas such as door handles on a regular basis.


We are looking for a new team member who has a understanding of different equipment such as using cameras and an understanding of adobe software.


The SU Student Activities Team are currently looking for some new team members to support the administration within the team.


The SU Activities Admin Assistants are part of the wider SU Student Activities Department that supports students to explore their passions through the different student-run groups and projects such as Sports Clubs, Societies, VTeam (Volunteering) Projects and Rebel (student media).


In addition to this we also run the SU front of house in SU Reception and oversee 2 venues: the SU Creative Studios and Cine10; our on-campus cinema.


Alongside supporting the students with their activities, we also provide the administrative services to allow them to operate.


The SU Reception Assistant will be based in SU Reception and act as the front of house for the Students’ Union with a focus on being the front of house for the SU Student Activities Team.


Reporting to the Reception Manager you will assist with telephone, face-to-face and email enquiries, therefore excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.


You’ll assist with general administrative tasks and back office support and directed.


You will be working in one of the best Volunteering Teams across all Students’ Unions in the UK – University of Essex Students’ Union VTeam.


VTeam is a part of the Student Activities department and helps students get amazing skills, benefit community, find new friends and improve mental health.


The department is focusing on creating exciting and useful volunteering opportunities for members to get involved in.


We know that volunteering can equip you with a wide range of transferable skills, but we need you to help us managing the process and admin side of things.

Sub Zero and Base Night club is the heartbeat on campus and as bar staff you will be the main point of contact for students who arrive at our venues, so a friendly face and love of helping to provide a great night out is a must.

As technical crew you will experience the heartbeat of our campus and within, helping Sub Zero, Base and the SU Bar put on events a friendly face and love of all things technical is a must.

    Even if you’re not 100% certain you’re coming to Essex, get your application in. If you're shortlisted you’ll be asked to complete some role related questions. The next stage won’t take place until after 10th August so you’ll be able to let us know you’re definitely coming then.

    If you’ve got this far we will be in touch and will ask you send us a short video showcasing you, shining in your very best light.  We’ll also ask you to confirm that you have accepted your place at Essex and will definitely be joining un in September.
  • In early September

    We’ll let you know whether you are successful and going to become part of the family.
  • 29th September – 1st October

    Will be induction and training. You will need to be on campus and available for all your training sessions. Full details will be provided if you are joining the team but keep the date in mind and don’t book a holiday!
  • 3rd October

    Your new job starts* woo hoo!  *some roles will have slightly different start dates but we’ll keep you updated all the way through the process.
