October has been a month of growth and accomplishment. I’m proud of the goals we’ve reached and the progress made across Southend !
Here are some of the key highlights from my work this month :
Freshers’ Events
- Helped plan and set up Freshers’ Week alongside the SU team.
- Organised 24 events for students in collaboration with local restaurants and service teams in Southend.
- Ensured a smooth and welcoming start for all new students.
SU Lock In wall; Connecting Students at Southend Campus
I’m excited to share that I set up the SU Lock-In Wall at Southend campus! This wall is designed to help students feel more connected and part of the SU family, offering a space to share messages, creativity, and community spirit. A huge thank you to everyone who supported me . I believe it’s a fantastic addition that truly brings our campus community closer together.
Welcome Talks & Department Visits
- Delivered welcome talks across all departments:
- East 15 Acting School
- Health and Science
- Essex Business School (EBS) Meet-Up
- Introduced students to the SU, upcoming events and support services.
International Student Support
- Worked on the Southend International Student Handbook, which is being distributed throughout this week & the digital version is also found on this link :https://www.essexstudent.com/pageassets/southend/support/1866-International-Handbook-SEP25-v7-SINGLES.pdf
- Organised and hosted my first ever big event an International Mixer with international snacks and teas.
- Led town tours to help students get familiar with Southend.
Open Day
- Took part in the University Open Day.
- Delivered a talk about the Students’ Union and student life.
- Ran an SU Makes session for prospective students to engage with the SU creatively.
Committees & Leadership
- Attended multiple committee meetings to represent Southend students.
- Chaired the Union Performance Meeting, ensuring progress and accountability across SU initiatives.
Projects & Initiatives
- Worked with the Democracy Department on the SCO Reward System to recognise student contributions and gift them for their dedication and hard work. Additionally I created a 30 s video to promote the SCO role:https://www.instagram.com/reel/DPiwb9kCHWy/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
New Societies in Southend
Successfully supported the launch of 5 new societies:
- Sports Fandom Society
- Dance Society
- Technology and Enterprise Club
- Southend Role-Playing Game Society
- International Café partnered by 2 organisations,the bridge & friends international
Upcoming Events:
Organized a Diwali dinner and celebration in partnership with Namaste Village to share the spirit of light, togetherness, and cultural festivity with the student community.
Hosting a Halloween-themed mixer featuring face painting, pumpkin carving, spooky snacks and drinks, and a themed photobooth for students to enjoy a night of fun and creativity, with a Halloween themed escape room coming up as well.
It’s been a busy and rewarding October from welcoming new students and launching societies to improving international student experiences.
