Hi everyone! So I was wrong last time and actually this is the last blog (awww).

I just wanted to reiterate what I said in my last blog and thank you from the bottom of my heart for this year. I hope you're all so so proud of everything you've achieved this year and of the friendships, memories, and communities you've built during this time.

This role has challenged me and helped me grow in ways I never expected. I’ve truly learned so much from all of you and  it has been an absolute privilege to represent you, fight for the issues that matter to you, and work alongside so many incredible people in our community.

For this blog, I thought it would be good to highlight some of the achievements I am the most proud of in my time as President. Here are some of those

  • Created the Community Market, raising over £6,000 for clubs and societies
  • Launched the SU Gender Affirmation Fund with @uoessextransofficer, securing £4,000 to support trans students in accessing gender affirming items
  • Secured £30,000 to transform SCOs from volunteers roles into paid, part-time positions
  • Passed the Arms Manufacturers Off Campus and SU Financial Transparency policies through SU Council
  • Lobbied and secured funding for a free shuttle bus between North Station and Colchester Campus to support commuting students
  • Successfully lobbied for £3 meals and their continuation into next year with Hareem
  • Launched the SU Value Meal Kits with Hareem to expand affordable food options
  • Worked on the Pay the Placement and Fix University Funding campaigns, advocating for change at a national level
  • Called two Extraordinary SU Council Q&A meetings with the VC, PVC-E and trade union representatives for transparency and accountability
  • Lobbied MPs to challenge hostile immigration policies, defend trans rights in response to the EHRC’s guidance, and campaign for sustainable public funding for universities
  • Supported the national Gaza40 campaign, advocating for Palestinian students to access the UK university offers and scholarships they had earned

None of this would have been possible without the support of the entire SU family, and all of you who raised your voices and held me accountable. I said it when I was first elected, and I’ll say it again now: please never stop speaking out. What matters to you is always at the centre of everything the SU does.

Whether it's through voting, organising, calling referendums, standing for elections, protesting, or scrutinising the work of your Student Leaders through SU Council, your participation is so so important. Student democracy only works when you guys engage with it, and your involvement is what drives meaningful change on our campus

Again, thank you so so so much for trusting me to be your President this year. It's truly been the honor of a lifetime.
