April wins in Southend

This past month has been a bit quieter on campus due to the Easter break, but it’s still been a productive and positive time. I also had the chance to take some annual leave and recharge before getting back into work.

Annual Leave 🌴
At the start of the month, I was on annual leave in Portugal, which was a great opportunity to rest and reset before returning to a busy term ahead.

Campus Update 🌿
Since returning, campus has been relatively quiet as students are just coming back from the Easter break. It’s been a good time to catch up on ongoing work and prepare for the upcoming weeks. During this time, I’ve also been listening to students’ concerns regarding the campus closure, making sure their voices are heard and their feedback is fed back to the relevant teams.

Pay The Placement Campaign 💼
I’ve continued supporting the Pay The Placement campaign by encouraging students to get involved, share their placement experiences, and help raise awareness. I’ve also been engaging students to sign the petition, which has been great to see as more voices come together to support the campaign.

SU Angels Content 🎥
I’ve been working with the marketing team to film content for SU Angels—an initiative where SU staff support students during exams by handing out free hot and cold drinks, along with biscuits and donuts. It’s been great to capture and promote something that directly supports student wellbeing during a stressful time of assessments, exams and deadlines.

Meetings & Representation 📝
I also attended the Executive Board meeting, where key updates and decisions were discussed. It was a great opportunity to stay involved in wider university developments and ensure that the student voices in southend continues to be represented.

Society Support 🎉
I’ve supported all new societies in Southend by allocating £50 to each, helping them run events and invest in essentials such as equipment, snacks, or booking spaces. I also met with several societies to plan their upcoming events and understand how best I can support them. It’s been great to help societies get started and create more opportunities for student engagement on campus.

Student Support , Facilities Improvements 🧼
Based on student feedback, sanitary products have now been stocked in the Gateway Building toilets. This was something students had asked for, so it’s great to be able to respond directly to their needs and improve accessibility on campus.

Clifftown Support – East 15 Students 🍽️
I also arranged for a microwave to be delivered to Clifftown for East 15 students. This is a small but important addition that will make day-to-day campus life more convenient for students based there.

Upcoming Events 🎉
There are some exciting activities coming up, including Just Play sessions like swimming and pilates, as well as rock climbing. There’s also the Holi celebration taking place at the Colchester campus—definitely something to look forward to!

Looking Ahead ✨
Although it’s been a quieter month, it’s been really valuable to focus on student-led improvements and making practical changes on campus. As more students return, I’m looking forward to building momentum again and continuing to support the Southend community.
