Recent activities & Events in Southend
The past couple of months have been really busy but exciting, and I wanted to share some of what I’ve been working on.
Pay The Placement Campaign 💼
I’ve been working on the Pay The Placement campaign, getting more Southend students involved and collaborating with other Students’ Unions to make it even stronger. It’s been great to see students taking an interest and supporting the project.
One World Essex 🌍
I ran the One World Essex event, which celebrated the diversity of our student community. There were loads of activities like henna, canvas painting, musical statues, plus international snacks, gifts, and cultural food from Dub Kitchen. It was amazing to see so many students taking part and enjoying the atmosphere.
Eat & Meet 🍲
The Eat & Meet event happened in Cliff Town for the first time. Students really enjoyed the pasta salad and the relaxed space to connect with each other. Events like this really show how food and conversation can bring people together.
Valentine’s Day Event ❤️
For Valentine’s Day, we made Rocky Roads together! It was a fun, creative session and a great way for students to meet and connect.
Student Elections 💛
During the election period, I created a video for the Welcome Village, helping students get involved and understand everything in a fun, easy-to-follow way. It was great to support the student community during this time.
Conferences & Meetings 📝
I attended the Spring Conference in Reading, which was a great chance to meet other student leaders from different universities, share ideas, and discuss projects.
I also joined the University Student Experience Committee meeting and the University Closure Q&A session, listening to students’ questions and concerns to make sure their voices were heard and addressed.
Colchester Transition Q&A & Student Trip 🚌
I attended a Q&A session about moving to Colchester, listening to students and noting their concerns to help make the transition as smooth as possible.
I also joined the student trip to Colchester campus, including an overnight stay, which was a great chance to explore the campus, its facilities, and support students preparing for the move.
Circus Society 🎪
I visited a Circus Society session to check in with members and see how they’re doing. I’m so proud of the team and the execs, Issac Beeton and Jack Andrews, who ran their first show in March — a big milestone for the society!
SU Canteen 🍽️
The SU Canteen has also been really appreciated by students this term. Those who placed orders shared positive feedback and really enjoyed the food. A big thank you to everyone who ordered and supported the project — it truly helped make it happen.
As this term comes to an end and the campus begins to get quieter, we’ve decided to close the canteen on the 19th of March as the term finishes.
Final Thoughts ✨
These past few months have been busy but really rewarding. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved and the events that have brought students together. Thanks to everyone who has supported, attended, or shared feedback...your involvement really makes a difference!
