Volunteering with VTeam was one of the most transformative experiences of my professional development and my personal development. When I started, I second-guessed my ability to contribute meaningfully to the community. But after a couple of weeks, and by meeting loads of wonderful and talented people, through consistent effort and active participation, I could easily notice a significant change in my confidence and skills.
One of the most valuable lessons I learned was the importance of stepping outside my comfort zone. Whether speaking in front of a group, leading a small project, or engaging with people from different backgrounds, each situation presented a challenge that pushed me to grow.
I was grateful to come across VTeam, a great range of projects that fit my personality and were aligned with my values. Gradually, I began to trust my judgment, speak up more often, and take on leadership roles.
Volunteering with VTeam also improved my communication skills. As an international student who has just moved to the UK, I could interact with diverse groups of people – some of whom needed my help and others who were fellow volunteers, staff, or organisers.
But it's not always just about skills, but also about meeting new people. Because of volunteering and societies across the University, I managed to befriend many people, some of whom are still in my life now.
Most importantly, being able to keep all the memories closer to my heart makes me beyond thankful to have had the chance to participate in so many different projects with VTeam.
Looking back, it might sound like a cliché to some, but without volunteering, I wouldn't be a step closer to the woman I would like to become. All the opportunities helped me discover my strengths that I didn't know I had, and it gave me all the courage I needed to continue growing from anywhere in the world.
If you can join VTeam, go for it; if you are nervous, don't worry; they've got your back and will have a project that will fit you best!😉
