The University of Essex Golf Club has 2 Mixed Teams which compete in the South Eastern British University and College Sport (BUCS) league and in the Cup Knockout Competition. This league consists of 5 other Universities in the South Eastern region. The format is Singles Scratch Matchplay with 6 players participating for each (mixed) team. We have finished high in the table for the past 4 years and are hoping to continue the high standard of competitive Golf.

Team Trials Sessions at the beginning of each semester where players who wish to play competitive Golf in the BUCS league can meet the squad. The Autumn Trail Sessions will be held on the 10th October and the 17th October. For more information on Club Trails, Please see our Facebook Page.
Training Sessions are typically held on Mondays, team players are expected to attend all training sessions. Training sessions are held at Playgolf, Colchester. Training sessions are held in a relaxed atmosphere where golfers can socialise witch each other, practice and grab a drink or food at the restaurant. Development Sessions which are tailored to the occasional golfer who is seeking to improve their game, as well as those who have never tried swinging a club before will also be held. These sessions are also held at Playgolf, Colchester. Development sessions follow the same relaxed format as the team training sessions. Food and drinks can be purchased at the Club's Restaurant, Members are encouraged to bring their friends along to hit some balls on the range and socialise with others. For golfers with handicaps 5 or less (men) or 12 or less (women), the BUCS circuit provides an opportunity to compete in Individual Stroke Play Championships at Golf Courses such as Saunton Golf Club, Woodhall Spa, and Princes Golf Club. Along with 3 more being played in Scotland. This is an opportunity for golfers to play at the highest level of competitive golf at a University or College level.
The University of Essex Golf Club is open to everyone. We welcome Golfers of all abilities as well as those who have never held a club before. On some Wednesday nights, we hold Socials before going to Sports Fed. - See the Facebook Page for information on Club Socials.
On some Weekends we will be playing friendly competitions at Playgolf Colchester. - See the Facebook Page for information on Friendly Matches.
The Anual Clacton Cup is held on a weekend in June where both Current Students, Staff, and Alumni compete to win the oldest Sporting Competition at the University. - Information of this event will be sent out later in the year.
Club aims - 2016 / 17
The University of Essex Golf Club aims to make sure all golfers at University have the opportunity to play golf regularly at a high standard. The Club's committee has set itself the following goals for the 2016 / 17 year.
- Compete in the BUCS league with 2/3 Teams for which each team will have a full and active squad.
- Frequently provide training sessions for active team members for which they will have the opportunity to develop and improve their game.
- Frequently provide beginner ‘Come and Try’ sessions for interested students who are new to the sport and provide them with an opportunity to play golf.
- Provide professional training to Golfers with the aim of improving their game.
- Provide an active and enthusiastic platform for the members of the society to socialise with their peers in a relaxed environment.
Club objectives - 2016 / 17
The Club's committee has set itself the following objectives in order to help achieve its aims.
- Hold multiple Trials Sessions at the beginning of each semester to recruit experienced golfers into the club. These will be widely advertised through social media. In order to keep players active and to prevent teams from not being filled, a ‘Strike’ System may be introduced.
- Weekly or Fortnightly training sessions for squad players.
- Fortnightly or Monthly beginner sessions for new players.
- Coaching Sessions provided by Professional Coach to be periodically held – Subject to discussion with Committee at first meeting.
- Provide an online poll for the members to assess the interest in particular club socials. Socials will be planned in advance with good organisation and advertising. Also provide weekend games for team members to play outside of the BUCS circuit in a more relaxed environment.
