Essex Blades Pool

WHAT ACTUALLY IS POOL?

English 8-Ball (or more commonly known as pool) is a sport where you split the pack of balls, pot 7 red or yellow balls, and 1 black ball, to win the game. Simple right?

In theory yes! The catch is that once the player pots 1 ball, they can chain their shots using where they hit the white ball to manipulate where it ends up to set themselves up for the next, and not even allow you to visit the table before winning.

WHAT ELSE DO WE PLAY?

We also play other cue sports such as Snooker and 9-ball!

  • Snooker is played on a far larger table with more balls, different rules, and has cue sports legends such as Ronnie O'Sullivan, Alex Higgins, and Stephen Hendry. It is incredibly popular within the UK and Ireland, with major interest also coming from Asia.
  • 9-ball is played on table around 2x the size of a standard pool table, where you pot from 1-9 in as little visits as possible, Efren Reyes is by far the most known 9-ball player. This sport is huge within North America and has huge influence from Southern Asia.

WHY SHOULD YOU PLAY?

Think you have what it takes to wield your cue and win in 1 visit? Come challenge us!

Interested in taking your game to the next level? We'll teach you!

And while youre at it, why not travel the UK representing our University in tournaments?

Seem like some great reasons to join if you ask me!

WHAT NEXT?

Now youve joined (hopefully) what should you bring?

  1.  Yourself

Yep thats it!*

We provide everything you need to learn the skills of the table, from the cues to the chalk.

* = Most if not all tournament players will provide their own cue and chalk, these can be purchased locally or online, please contact us at bladespoolclub@gmail.com if you want help or recommendations based on your level and budget.
