ATHLETICS

hello, we are the essex blades athletics club

Athletics is a sport of many athletic disciplines (e.g. 100m, 200m, Long Jump etc.). It is composed of 3 main categories; running, jumping and throwing. Many of these you will see in the Olympics. It is performed over 3 different terrains depending on which discipline you compete in. It is a team sport performed individually. Each individual will compete in a discipline(s) and points are awarded for the top 8 athletes. At the end of the competition the points are tallied and a winner is decided.

How many teams do we have?

We have 2 teams, a Track and Field team and a Cross-Country Team, however many of the cross country runners will also compete for the track and field team.

We attend 3 BUCS National competitions a year; Indoors, Outdoors and Cross Country. These are the most prestigious competitions for University level Athletics. We also partake in a London Universities and Colleges Athletics series which consists of an Indoor Championships, a 3 part Outdoor Series and a 5 part Cross Country League.
