Each year in February, students put themselves forward to run for a full-time, paid position as a Student Leader. They campaign for votes and every Essex student will have an equal chance to 'vote like a student' and choose who they want to be elected into each of the 6 roles. This is the SU Leadership Election.

Don’t settle for less. Vote for Demi, she’s the best!

Who am I?

Hi, my name is Demetra, but all my friends call me Demi. I'm a third-year Criminology with Social Psychology student as well as the President of the Romanian Society and the Treasurer of the Photography Society.

What skills do you believe you have that will help ensure the success of the big plan next year?

During my studies at Essex, I have been mainly involved with societies, although for the past 5 months I have also been working for the SU as a photographer. Either as a member or executive of societies, volunteer or photographer, Essex offered me the chance of meeting so many people from very different backgrounds with diverse passions and goals. This diversity, in particular, has made my time at Essex so memorable and I’d love nothing more than to have a part in making it shine brighter.

The various roles I had over the past 3 years have taught me leadership, diplomacy and problem-solving skills, which I deem important to fulfil the position I’m running for. From organizing parties and charitable concerts to career talks and bake sells, I believe I’ve succeeded in all the challenges I came across and delivered excellent student satisfaction.

The big plan focuses on the most important issues students are currently facing and I believe I not only have gained the necessary experience, but I also have the passion to tackle these issues. I am a confident and dedicated person, who is ready to take on a new challenge.

What are you passionate about?

Although I am passionate about many things, these usually revolve around helping others and taking an active role in the communities I am part of. Throughout the various projects I participated in, I’ve always given 110% and was ready to go the extra mile for the things I believe in. If given the opportunity, I believe as VP Student Experience I will successfully represent and support societies, sports clubs and VTeam.
