Each year in February, students put themselves forward to run for a full-time, paid position as a Student Leader. They campaign for votes and every Essex student will have an equal chance to 'vote like a student' and choose who they want to be elected into each of the 6 roles. This is the SU Leadership Election.

People give up their power by thinking they don't have any - Alice Walker

My name is Dolly and I'm the president of the feminist society and a Women's representative on student parliament.

My passion for representation and intersectionality is non-negotiable. The women on this campus deserve to be recognised, empowered and encouraged. I want to focus on the underlying misogyny in university life and the curriculum, decolonising and prioritising the voice of women to feel included in academia and university life.

Women of colour and Trans women are some of the most vulnerable communities globally and institutions should be encouraged to include our stories and empower our voices. With safer spaces for women, policies that give clear protection and support for survivors and workshops that give marginalised groups the floor.

I'd be proud to be given the opportunity to support and help represent the women on this campus.
