Each year in February, students put themselves forward to run for a full-time, paid position as a Student Leader. They campaign for votes and every Essex student will have an equal chance to 'vote like a student' and choose who they want to be elected into each of the 6 roles. This is the SU Leadership Election.

Dan, YOUR Student Experience Man #ManWithaPlan

A degree is great but YOUR student experience will never be forgotten. By improving Societies, V-Team, Rebel and Sport, TOGETHER we can maximise YOUR experience to the fullest.

I'm going to keep this short and sweet (ish) and tell you why I'm your Student Experience man. I'm Dan, I'm from Southend so I'm through and through Essex. This is one of the reasons why I care about our University being the best. My first year was up and down due to COVID-19 which meant I sadly could not get involved within a society or a sport team which I hated! Once again, second year... COVID-19. My third and current year has been the best year of my life due to getting the best student experience I could ask for. I now play for Men's Football and halfway through the year took over being the Social media officer for the club. I took over this role as I wanted to show my love for the sport in a creative way, as well as getting to show how amazing the people and sports teams at Essex University are, through the power of social media! Therefore, I believe I am the best for the role as I know I am passionate about this role within university and will do my very best to make YOUR university experience the best it could possibly be.

From experience, I know what it feels like to not be in a sport or society and how hard it is to put yourself in that situation. The anxiety can be overwhelming, but from pushing myself and getting involved in my third year, this taught me we need our friends and sport (if sport is your thing) for our mental health and this has never been more important. Being in my final year I've experienced how good it feels like to be involved in a lot more and with all of this knowledge from my own personal experiences at uni, I believe I am YOUR man.

Enough about me. If I'm elected by YOU, here are some things I would like to focus on in the SU to maximise your experience.

  • Societies- Just because there isn't enough money in the system, why should YOUR society suffer? I plan to advertise and promote all 100+ societies through my experience of social media. This will hopefully increase involvement in YOUR society that you care about.
  • Room booking's for Societies- I've seen there's been issues this year where societies turn up to a room that's locked and then having to go home. From a sports point of view, this is like turning up for a sports game and it being cancelled. This is very annoying and could ruin your day! I want to ease these booking and create an option on having a certain room booked every week to stop this issue.
  • Ensure the voice of all sport clubs are heard- Many sports are overlooked especially the clubs that don't comepte in BUCS, however they still make up the 43 clubs we offer at Essex! I will not be ignoring this.
  • Advertise live sport a lot more- There's been many times that I've seen on different group chats that people have asked if a certain football game is on (I've used football as an example due to being a HUGE football fan) at the SU bar and no one knows. That's becuase I believe it's not advertised as much as it should and this could be a perfect way of getting societies and sport clubs together. I will endevour to change this and make sports TV viewing much more accessible by providing information on sports that will be shown.
  • Southend and Loughton- Being from Southend, I care. I want to bring more of a family enviroment for all three campuses as we are ONE University and I'm here for everyone. I strive to make change for everyone.
  • Start a dominance over UEA and win 2022-23 Derby Day!- No excuses...

Finally, thank you for taking your time to read this. If you see me on squares or Sub during campaign week then please do come over and say hello. I will be more than happy to answer any questions on why I'm YOUR man for the Role.

Dan.
