Each year in February, students put themselves forward to run for a full-time, paid position as a Student Leader. They campaign for votes and every Essex student will have an equal chance to 'vote like a student' and choose who they want to be elected into each of the 6 roles. This is the SU Leadership Election.

Title: Manifesto for Strengthening the Asian Community at Essex University

Introduction:
My name is Lau Tze Wei (wayne), and I am proudly standing as a candidate for the role of Representative for the Asian Community in the University of Essex's Student Union. I am committed to making our university more inclusive, understanding, and respectful of our diverse Asian cultures.

Promoting Cultural Exchange:
If elected, I pledge to encourage cultural exchange and appreciation within and beyond the Asian community. We are a mosaic of cultures and histories, and I will work to organise events that allow us to share and celebrate our unique and collective heritage.

Ensuring Equal Representation:
Representation matters. It’s important that our concerns and achievements are recognised and heard. I will ensure that our voices are not just included, but respected and influential in decision-making processes.

Supporting Academic Success:
Academic success is vital. As your representative, I will work towards creating support networks to help our community navigate and excel in their academic journey. This could be through peer study groups, language support, or liaising with the faculty for academic issues.

Fostering a Welcoming Environment:
Every student deserves to feel at home on our campus. I will strive to make Essex University a place where everyone feels welcomed, safe, and accepted, regardless of their cultural background.

Standing Against Discrimination:
Discrimination in any form is unacceptable. As your representative, I promise to stand firmly against racism and work towards promoting respect and tolerance within our university community.

Improving Communication:
Open and direct communication lines are crucial. I plan to establish regular meetings where you can express your thoughts, suggestions, or concerns freely.

Collaboration with Other Communities:
While it's essential to amplify Asian voices, we should not isolate ourselves. I aim to foster relationships with other community representatives, to promote unity, respect, and mutual understanding.

Commitment to Service:
Finally, I pledge to serve our community with diligence and integrity. This role is about serving you, not myself. Your concerns will be my concerns, your victories my victories.

In conclusion, I promise to do my best to represent our diverse Asian community at Essex. I am eager to learn, grow, and create an environment of unity and respect, where everyone's voices are heard, and everyone's cultures are celebrated. Together, we can make a difference. Vote for me, and let's create the inclusive community we envision.
