Want to experience something new? Come and join us for an evening of festivities at Essex’s Diwali celebrations!

Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is celebrated by millions of people around the world. The festival coincides with the Hindu New Year and celebrates new beginnings as well as the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. On this day, revellers light traditional earthen pots called 'diyas' and decorate their houses with colourful rangoli artworks using coloured rice or powder.

Come and try on traditional clothing called sarees and dhotis at our Diwali photobooth, enjoy cultural performances by fellow Essex students and take part in our Bollywood dance demonstration. Cultural Societies will also host activity booths on the day. You can even get a temporary henna tattoo done for free, so don't miss out!
