The Fantastic Yoga and Meditation Society's charity of the year, this year, is St John Ambulance.
Throughout this pandemic, St John Ambulance have been working hard, training thousands of volunteers to work at vaccination centres.
The society have chosen to host a "Yoga Marathon" event on St John's Day, 24th June to raise money for this wonderful charity. Please see further details below.
Location: Secret Garden
Minimum donation to participate: £5
A yoga marathon is around 2 hours of yoga that involves doing 108 sun salutations and the society will support you at the event to get as close to this target as you can.
As this is a charity fundraiser, a minimum of £5 is required to participate either online or in person. You can donate at the event in cash (there'll be a fundraising bucket there to put your donation in), through the society's Just Giving page (details below) or by electronic payment at the event (there'll be a QR code to scan at the event which willl take you straight to the Just Giving page).
We encourage you to seek sponsorship for this fundraising event from friends and family and use this to pay for your entry. Any left over money from sponsorship can be donated to ST John's Ambulance too.

You can pre-book your place at the in person event in the Secret Garden on this page. The booking window will shut at midday on 24th June but people can still turn up on the day. Any remaining places will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.
Please note: In order to attend this physical event, you must have evidence of a negative lateral flow test result within 24hours of the event. Lateral flow tests are free to take at Colchester campus, based at the North Teaching centre.
You can book your slot in advance HERE. Test results take around 30minutes, so please allow enough time before the event. We will ask to see evidence of a negative result text at registration. The testing centre is open on the 21st June and 24th June from 07:30-17:30.
If you want to get involved but can't attend the physical event, you can join in on zoom where the session will be live streamed. The zoom link will be provided on this webpage during the week of 7th June 2021.
BY BOOKING A TICKET FOR THIS EVENT YOU AGREE TO BE FILMED AT THE SESSION WHICH WILL BE LIVE STREAMED ON ZOOM AND ALSO ALLOW THE YOGA AND MEDITATION SOCIETY TO USE ANY FOOTAGE IN FUTUTE PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL.
If you have any questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Yoga and Meditation Society have been in touch with yoga societies all over the UK who are keen to take part as well, and are looking for more participants, volunteers and benefactors.
How can you help?
Participants - people who would like to take part in the marathon either online through zoom or in person at one of the many locations across the country and raise money through sponsorship.
Volunteers - people who would like to help with the organisation and promotion leading up to the event (especially people who are good at design, marketing, media) and people who would like to help on the day, manning the stall etc. The society are also going to be running a bake sale at the same time so additional money for the cause can be raised that way too. Volunteers can log their hours on Grad Intel.
Benefactors - people who don't fancy doing any yoga but would like to sponsor participants or buy cakes at the bake sale.
A bake sale will take place on the 24th June from 16:00-19:00 in Square 3 with all funds raised going to St John's Ambulance.
If you are interested in getting involved, we are having volunteer meetings every Monday at 6pm until the event on zoom:
