The University are delivering free data science training, with an emphasis on coding, to current and incoming students with different levels of data science and programming skills. This training is optional, non-credit bearing, but it can go on your transcript.
The ten-day Data Science for All online course is open to all Essex students who do not have a computer science background but want to improve their skills in data science and data analytics to help them be more employable when they graduate. This course is online and open to everyone!
The ten-day Data Science Boot Camp is to offer added support for incoming PGT Data Science students who do not have a background in computer science. This course is perfect for students who have previously studied the humanities or social sciences, or who have some science and data experience through degrees in life sciences or business. For any incoming student taking a Data Science course, this boot camp is strongly recommended to get you up to speed to take on more challenging data science and machine learning modules in your course. This takes place in person, in the lab.
Both programmes start on September 13th 2021 and end on September 24th 2021, running Monday to Friday.
These sessions are being led by two fantastic computer scientists, Dr. Haider Raza and Dr. Sefki Kolozali, both of which have experience teaching to students with no background in computer science or data science. There will be additional support on hand in the lab to help students get the hang of it.
How to sign up:
All you need to do is contact Natasha Lindstaedt via email (nezrow@essex.ac.uk), and let us know your full name, course, year, and which boot camp you are signing up for.
Who can take it?
Any Essex student can take Data Science for All, as it is all online.
Incoming PGT students can take Data Science Boot Camp but this takes place in person, in a lab on campus.
