We're on a journey to become the world's most student-centred organisation and this is your chance to join us. As a key member of our Marketing Team you will provide creative and bold photos which capture our amazing Southend Students’ Union in action!

As a Photographer, you will help the SU and its image by providing creative and bold photos to capture the atmosphere in our excellent venues and the amazing events we put on! The job can range from taking pictures at quiz night to capturing the fun at welcome week. This role is very varied but exciting and your photography will be used to promote the great events we hold at Essex to both current and prospective students.

Your Responsibilities

The things you'll be looking after

  • Providing a wide range of photos from various Southend SU events, including nights out, sports, representation and so on.
  • Work efficiently to ensure all aspects of the event are covered, using creativity to show off the atmosphere and student involvement.
  • Processing, watermarking and uploading photos to and facebook.  Ensure original files go to the Events and Communications Assistant and/or Marketing Department each week.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders (including SU, clients and students).

Who you are

The kind of person you'll need to be




Strong communication skills



Experience of creating effective photography work, and able to adapt styles according to subject matter



Good command of the English Language (written and verbal)



Ability to interpret user’s requirements and deliver photographs in accordance with supplied brief



Must have own equipment, including camera and flash



Ability to adapt photography style according to subject matter



.Working knowledge of current software, for example Adobe Lightroom



Ability to work well as part of a team and under own initiative


Knowledge of Students’ Union and events they hold



Knowledge and understanding of student audience



Understanding different photography techniques   X
