The University of Essex Students’ Union is an organisation that's coming out of the pandemic in a strong position and we're in te market for a new Operations Manager to oversee our bars and catering offering and help us build on our already fantastic services.  

This role will be long hours, hard work but more satisfying than any role you will ever have undertaken.  When you go home you’ll feel like you’ve accomplished something and contributed to the bigger picture -  you can literally walk out onto campus and see the difference you’ve made.  Every penny you make positively enhances the lives of Students at Essex as all profits are fed back into helping provide Advice, representation, sports and more for students – this job isn’t about shareholders and CEO’s getting richer off your hard work.

This role isn’t overseeing your “normal” high street bar or restaurant, this is helping deliver amazing customer experiences and operating a range of outlets including bars, food service and café style venues.

You must be agile and able to keep up with the fast paced nature of the Student Union and be able to use your initiative to solve problems as they arise.

You will need to be a strong leader who can coach and nurture a large team of permanent and student staff to success. They will be key in helping you in delivering exceptional experiences for our students.

Within this role you’ll have the autonomy to set your targets, create your mission for the year and write your own budget – all with the aim of improving student experience.

In addition, you will be part of a senior manager team that will help shape the whole of the student experience and will work collaboratively with other departments on a variety of projects.

You’ll be supported each, and every, step of the way in your efforts by some fantastic colleagues - the SU has a great support structure including HR, Finance, Premises and H&S teams all on campus
