Can you deliver events that will create lasting memories for our students?

The University of Essex Students’ Union is an organisation that is coming out of the pandemic in a strong position and we are in the market for a new Venues Manager to oversee our late night licensed trade.

This role will be long hours, hard work but more satisfying than any role you will ever have undertaken.  When you go home you’ll feel like you’ve accomplished something and contributed to the bigger picture - you can literally look out of a window on campus and see the difference you’ve made.

Every penny you make positively enhances the lives of Students at Essex as all profits are fed back into helping provide Advice, representation, sports and more for students – this job isn’t about shareholders and CEO’s getting richer off your hard work.

If you haven’t noticed yet, you should know this isn’t a job in a “typical” nightclub… It’s managing a 1200 capacity, purpose built venue that has had recent investment of over £100k on a state of the art sound system and lighting rig to create a world class, dedicated student club that’s at the heart of campus life.

You must be agile and able to keep up with the fast paced nature of the Student Union and be able to use your initiative to solve problems as they arise.

Working closely with student communities, together you’ll come up with a vibrant and exciting events program including a Freshers fortnight that will blow the competition out of the water.

Within this role you’ll have the autonomy to set your targets, create your mission for the year and write your own budget – all with the aim of improving student experience.

You will take the lead in marketing events from the ground up  - from working with designers and videographers through to seeing your marketing come alive.

Alongside you will be a team of full time staff and a core team of student staff helping you in delivering on our mission of being the world’s most student centred organisation.

In addition, you will be part of a senior manager team that will help shape the whole of the student experience and will work collaboratively with other departments on a variety of projects.

You’ll be supported each, and every, step of the way in your efforts by some fantastic colleagues - the SU has a great support structure including HR, Finance, Premises and H&S teams all on campus

If you think you’ll be a great fit for the Students' Union and help us fulfil our mission of being the world’s most student-centred organisation then check out the full job description and apply for this amazing role below.
