From October 2017, Anonymous Marking will be implemented for all UG and PGT coursework. Anonymous marking has appeared in various manifestos in the last few years, and there's been additional feedback from course reps and students.
"This is a step towards a more fair marking of coursework for all. This doesn’t stop personalised feedback, as after the mark is inputted and secured, the academic can de-anonymise your work and give you that crucial personalised feedback on your work. This also doesn’t affect your formative, or practice assignments either. What this means, is that all students are on a level playing field when your work is being marked." - Josh Gulrajani, VP Education 2016/17
"As a university with people from all walks of life we pride ourselves in providing the best for every student. Therefore, tackling the BAME attainment gap is very important. Countless studies by equality and diversity organisations have shown the drastic decrease of this gap when anonymous marking becomes the norm. Let us make sure Essex continues to smash barriers for all students!" - Asha Ali, BAME Officer 2015/16
Change doesn't just happen. These wonderful people made it:
