How to use Lightroom

REBEL RESOURCES: HOW TO USE LIGHTROOM

THIS GUIDE WILL TAKE YOU THROUGH HOW TO EDIT PHOTOS USING ADOBE LIGHTROOM

1. OPEN LIGHTROOM.  

Mac: Go to spotlight search in the far right corner of your screen and type Lightroom in the search, then press enter.  
Windows: Go to the start menu and type Lightroom in the search. Then click on the Lightroom application. 

2. CREATE A NEW CATALOGUE. 

Click on new catalogue option in the file menu.
Save the catalogue on your desktop, name it.    

3. IMPORT YOUR PHOTOS.  

Locate the folder called Lightroom Workshop on your desktop. Check all the photos on there an click import.  



4. START DEVELOPING YOUR PHOTOS.  

Click on the develop tab at the top of the page.  


5. WORKSPACE FUNCTIONS.

On the right hand side
 you have your navigator and preset menu, where you can zoom in to a particular part of your image, see the history of changes you’ve made and apply some presets to your image.
This is a good way to get started, to see some styles you might not have thought of yourself or add in presets that you’ve found/ downloaded from the internet.  
On the left hand side, you have your corrections menu. 

6. CORRECTIONS MENU.



First you have your, crop/rotation tool, then your spot heal for minor spots that you want to get rid of, red eye correction, graduated filter to apply gradual adjustments, radial filter to apply adjustments based on an area on the image and brush tool to apply adjustments on the areas you stroke.  


 In the Basic and all the below menus, you can apply adjustments to the whole image, rather than just to a part.  

 The basic menu allows you to adjust white balance, exposure and contrast, highlights, shadows, whites and blacks, clarity, vibrance and saturation.  

 Tone curve allows you to adjust the lights and darks balance on your image.  

 Colour menu allows you to adjust all the hues separately.  

 Split Toning allows you to adjust the hues of highlights and shadows on the image.  

 Detail menu allows you to adjust the sharpness and noisiness of the image. 

 Lens corrections menu allows the software to apply a lens correction preset based on the camera you were using to take the picture.   
 Transform menu allows you to freely crop the image without restraining the image to the original dimensions.  


7. HAVE FUN. 

Most of Lightroom’s functions are very fun to explore, once you know the basic functions. Have a go at editing the photos and see what you can transform them to.  
Press ‘p’ on your keyboard to flag the ones you like the most for an easy export later. press ‘u’ to unflag them.  

8. EXPORT AND ADD YOUR WATERMARK.  

Go back to Library and select your filter to show the flagged items. Then select them all and select export from the file menu.  
Export the files to your desktop and put them in a subfolder called ‘My pics”.   Select custom file naming and add your preferred name for this export.  
Scroll down to the watermark menu and select edit watermarks.  
Upload the Rebel logo .png file and place it in the far left corner of the photo, at 25% opacity.  
Click done and export.  

9. DONE.
