What's an SU Heirloom?

One of the first things you'll do when you get to Essex is collect your heirloom. It's individually numbered and yours for life. You'll pass down your number and share your story with generations of Essex students.

The heirloom is your unique, customisable symbol of belonging to the SU family. It's available in handmade shapes with a choice of attachments, all presented in a box to treasure. When you graduate, your number is passed down to a new student, and you get the chance to hand down your stories, tips and experiences. Over time we’ll create generations of connected Essex students that can help each other get jobs, start businesses, do research, and change the world.

After registration you'll enter the Heirloom House. You'll get an overview of what the SU has to offer you (it's a nifty audio tour, like a spoken word silent disco) before you sit down with one of our student advisors. They were freshers once, just like you, and they'll chat to you about what you're interested in, help with any questions you've got and suggest what clubs and societies you might like.
