Hi Everyone,

SInce the last blog it has been a really busy time for me and the team working hard and using the winter break to power ahead with our priorities for the year. As always I will go over a few highlights here but i am always happy to meet and discuss these further with anyone that is interested.

Student trustee recruitment

At the end of Last year I completed interviews for the new student trustee roles on the SU trustee board and am happy to report that we have 3 new student trustees in Anubriya, Riley and Sussanah who have all already attended their first board meeting and will be amazingly valuable to the charity.

SU christmas shutdown

Over the christmas period, the union closes our doors for a week to give everyone time to enjoy christmas and new year (and celebrate my birthday of course)

Lighting campaign

During the first week of January, Multiple members of the team met with local councillors ot launch the campaign to keep the lights on in the local area. The campaign was widely supported and we are now strengthening the campaign through channels out of the meeting, hopefully announcing ways students can get involved soon.

vc recruitment

I have continued to work on the recruitment of the next vice chancellor and soon we will make the final decision on the VC7 but I am confident and happy to say that I believe all of the remaining candidates care dearly about students and will work to improve student expereince whilst listening to the student voice should they be successful in the process.

EGT planning

Mylsef and the VP Welfare have begun the planning for this years Essex got talent. I can confirm this years show will be on Saturday 4Th May and more details will come shortly, we hope for this to be a collaborative project with the volunteering exec to ensure it is once again an amazing show worth every penny for charity.

lots and lots of uni and su meetings 

These meetings have included University Council which is the trustee board of the university, Policy and Resource committee which considers the finances of the university, the university senate that considers the academic section of the university, and the SU trustee board which oversees the legal, financial and reputational standing of the union. Whilst these meetings are confidential so i cannot discuss what is considered in them, I can reassure everyone that we are working hard to ensure students are considered in every meeting and decision and we will continue to do so for the rest of our terms of office.
