Quote Of The Day:

You are NOT a Doormot for someone else's negativity. You are NOT required to set yoursef on fire to keep someone else warm. Loving yourself is the greatest revolution!

Hello everyone!

As I'm sat in the office writing this blog post, I can feel the transition between the seasons as we say goodbye to Summer and hello to Autumn (If you didn't get that reference, I highly recommend watching 500 Days of Summer!). It's time to bust out the good ol' jackets and jeans. Similarly, many of you have raised a lot of concerns about your fears about returning to campus, making friends, socialising as a Fresher, and going down to the SU Bar for a point. I am working on many of these things, but I'll give aim to give you as much information as I can at the moment regarding your welfare upon return to campus:

Consent Programme 2020

A big emphasis going into this academic year is surrounding consent. It is important to all of us that as a Student's Union (SU), we clearly define and allow all of our members to understand what consent entails. As a community, we are very diverse. We come from many different backgrounds and upbringings. The level of education individuals receive surrounding consent is also very different. In order to ensure that everyone understands YES and NO in a uniformed manner, Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity (SWIS) and the SU have been working hard to launch the Consent Programme online as a compulsory Moodle Training course. I am glad to report that this has been completed and we look forward to rolling out to all studetns at the start of the academic term.

Qurantine On Campus

Whether you are a Fresher or a Returning student, the University has implemented measures and guidelines on how to social distance within buildings on campus, in classrooms, and on campus accomodation. All of this information will be given to you upon your arrival into Essex, if not prior. For those who are required to quarantine upon their arrival, the University has secured a location and will instruct you. You will be given information on receiving coursework and how to access various facilities whilst you're sheilding.

Tackling Loneliness

I am working in conjunction with Adrian, our Vice President of Community and Engagement, in order to deliver social events both online and on campus. We understand how difficult it can be to create that emotional and physical connection when you're trying to make friends. As I stated in my previous blog, I intend to make this part of the blog permanent so you can always refer to this section if you are lost. Look out for updates on this website to make sure that you get the latest news on whats happening online and around campus.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me at vpwelfare@essex.ac.uk I am here for you should you require anything. I might be slightly late at replying, but I will defo get back to you :)

Love,

Vinnosh Kumar

Your Vice President of Welfare
