Another two weeks have flown by and it’s time for another Educational update from your very own VP Education.

I’m aware that the title doesn’t work as it’s a bit late but I’m running out of series that have that many films – so you’re going to have to allow it. I’ve had another busy two weeks – attending two University committees – AQSC and Research Committee – where I represented student interest. In addition, I supported the SU Education Manager in presenting to Senior Staff Conference about Live Feedback, and had my regular meetings with a variety of University Senior Managers.

Myself, Alex, and Adrian together filmed our Big Plan updates – hopefully you will see them soon! And with Alex, I met with YUFE students to discuss what the SU can do for them, what we are, and why we exist, who have come to Essex this term.

We’ve also started our Lecture Live Feedback (name to be reconsidered), and so far it’s been really productive and we have seen some fantastic work done by academics to make classes as engaging as possible and really utilising the technology to make sure the academic experience is as good as it can be.

We were supposed to have a meeting about WiFi – this was postponed as there was no big update – but from the SU side we have now created a tool where you can tell us when and where you’ve experienced WiFi problems on campus (Colchester only for now) so that we can use this information to inform our discussions with the University.

In addition, we (as Sabbs) met with Anthony Forster – the Vice Chancellor – for the first time (only a few months later than usual!) and we discussed why we had come to Essex and the issues that students were facing.

In the next two weeks I am attending Senate, doing some more Lecture Live Feedback, having my regular meetings with University Senior Staff, and more!
