Taking the bus
We have multiple bus stops located around campus, heading towards the Tesco, Colchester High Street, Wivenhoe, and many other destinations. As a student, you can grab a discounted First Bus pass. Find out more about bus passes on their website.
Bus stops are located at:
- South Courts
- Essex Business School
- The Meadows
- The Quays
You can check bus times on the FirstBus app or the First Bus website.
Another handy website is Bus Times for tracking times and buses.
Cycling
If you bring a bike to campus there are many places to safely lock it for the day including:
- Essex Business School
- North Towers
- South Courts
- Essex Sports Arena
If your bike needs repairs, you can take it to Dr Bike when they are on campus or head to Halfords on Cowdray Avenue.
Driving
If you’re living off campus and have a car, you can buy a parking permit from the University website. This permit allows you to park in North Towers car park, Valley car park, Car Park B and Capon Road car park. There are also spaces for motorcycles and scooters to be parked.
Taxis
There are multiple taxi companies that operate in Colchester, such as Panther Cabs (01206 525525), Five Sevens Taxi (01206 577777), and All The Fours (01206 544444). Many of these take card payments, but always keep cash with you just in case one doesn’t. There are taxi ranks located at North Towers and South Courts for drop off and pick up.
Tier Bikes and E-Scooters
You can also rent Tier Bikes and E-Scooters around Colchester (although, for an E-Scooter you must have a provisional driver’s license).
You can find parking for them at the back of the North Towers Car Park. You can find out more about Tier on their website.
Trains
Hythe Station is the closest train station to campus, with easy transfers to Colchester, London and Norwich. You can search times and buy tickets on Trainline.
If you are between 16 and 25, or 26 and 30 years old you could be eligible for railcard which saves you 1/3 of your travel for each trip. Find out more about the railcard here.
As you can see, there are many cost-effective ways to travel to and from campus, and don’t forget that, despite all of these options, if the distance is not far, walking is also an option, with many places in Colchester being less than an hour walk away.
