This week saw the last busy BUCS Wednesday of the season, with 33 fixtures taking place. Whilst many of our teams had finished their seasons, others were looking to secure some silverware with a win.

There's also another episode of Blades TV - featuring highlights of recent Blades action and an interview with Alex and Chris from our Lacrosse Club.

WEEK 18 HIGHLIGHTS:

Table Tennis Men’s 1st secured first position in South Eastern Tier 1 this week, finishing with a record of 7 wins from 8 matches, having only being promoted to the division from this year. The team will be entering play-off matches for a chance to be promoted to BUCS Premier South.

Hockey Women’s 1st continued their success streak in their final league match against Arts London Women’s 1st. The Blades have dominated this BUCS season, winning every game with great scores. Essex's performance in their final match was impeccable with great defence play shown by Amelia Low, Abbie Henshall and Nellie Unsworth. Equally, there was great forward play by Jasmine Vincent (player of the match), Ellie Benfield and Lois Wright. Essex won the match by a deserved 4-2 scoreline. Co-Captain Sophie Smith was overjoyed with this great outcome for the team, who worked hard throughout the year to achieve such great results and the league title.

Hockey Men’s 2nd played a very intense game against Canterbury CC Men’s 2nd. The first half was difficult for the Blades, with many team members becoming increasingly frustrated while Canterbury scored 3 goals. However, Essex truly came back with a vengeance during the second half scoring two amazing goals - one scored by Man of the Match Dominic Lee. The Essex comeback in this second half was nothing short of amazing with great game play from Bruk Abraham and Chris Hughes. Unfortunately, the final whistle denied Essex the equaliser, with Canterbury finishing 3-2 winners. This was the last game of a successful season for the Men’s 2nd team, securing their place in the league after being promoted last year.

Our Equestrian team competed in their final BUCS competition a few weeks ago. The Blades did really well competing against some great riders on some difficult horses in both dressage and show jumping. Overall, Essex placed 3rd with an individual placing from BaiFernn Chayabhan.

Futsal Men’s 1st and Men’s 2nd won at home against. Best of luck to Futsal Men’s 1st playing away at Portsmouth in the South East Conference Cup Final this weekend.

Members of our Athletics Club competed at the 5th and last race of the LUCA XC league at Wormwood Scrubs. It was a great effort from all Essex athletes including our XC captain Jonny Keogh. Each lap was 2.75km with men doing 3 laps and women doing 2 laps. This event completed the LUCA XC league and results are now out for overall scores. Some of Essex’ athletes finished in the top 25% overall with Jamie Garry finishing 29/169 and Connor Holland 87/209 overall. Whilst the Essex Athletics XC team were competing away, our Track & Field team trained with the ACS society to prepare them for their Eastern Clash against UEA.

And finally, Essex student and top sprinter Rebecca Jegoo featured in a  'Jago v Jeggo' special on ITV News. Check out the video here.
