Essex continued their strong BUCS season Wednesday, completing another week with an overall win rate above 50%. Some of those wins were also enough to clinch league titles and ensure further progress in the cup as we chase some end of season silverware.

WEEK 14 HIGHLIGHTS:
Fencing Women’s 2nd played City Women’s 1st in the quarter-final of the cup. Essex unfortunately lost the first weapon, Sabre, 35-45. During the second weapon (Foil) City were leading by 10 points, however through great teamwork the Blades made a comeback ultimately winning 45-30. This meant Essex took the lead going into the final match, but only by 5 points. The Blades fought hard and through an impressive performance won the final weapon (Épée). The final result was Essex 125-106 City, which means the Women’s 2nd team reached the semi-final of the cup.
Football Women’s 1st continued their winning streak, beating UCL 4-0. The Blades have remained unbeaten all season and this result means Essex have now won their league, despite still having two more league matches ahead of them. Tier 1 Football awaits Essex next season, but not before the chance to complete a league and cup double which would crown an incredible year.

Football Women’s 2nd have also been on a winning streak, having won every match so far this term. They continued their excellent run with a 4-3 win over UCL on Wednesday, and currently sit joint first in their league looking to finish the season on a high.

This week saw the conclusion of all BUCS Premier divisions, in which our 4 Performance Sport teams achieved outstanding results:
- Basketball Women's 1st - 1st
- Basketball Men's 1st - 2nd
- Volleyball Women's 1st - 2nd
- Volleyball Men's 1st - 1st
All 4 teams progress through to the quarter-finals of the BUCS Championships, all taking place at home on Wednesday 26th February in the Sports Arena/Hall. Support will be greatly welcomed!
