Hi, I’m Mark; your VP Education, and I know how hard it can be to find your class on campus. Whether you want to find your class, get to your seminar, or attend one of the fantastic societies at Essex, you need to know where to go! So, I compiled a list of the best ways to find your classroom when on campus.

  1.        Use the FindYourWay Essex app

It’s the easiest and most convenient way to find where somewhere is! It also gives you directions of how to get there from where you are, including using step-free routes. Just make sure if you’re following it you’ve selected the right room – a lot are named similarly! It’s important to note that this is only available for the Colchester and Southend campuses.

  1.        Find it together

Working out where you need to go with your friends can always be an adventure. Or it could be a way to make new friends if you’re all going to the same place! There is method to the madness of the room numbering on campus, so it is possible! Just remember what the room number is, and you’ll find it eventually!

Top tip: The number after the first point (.) is usually the floor (4N.3.2 would be on the 3rd floor).

You could also ask any other member of the Essex family! You’ll almost certainly come across someone while looking for your room and they might know where it is – just ask!

  1.        Learn the entire campus by heart.

None of the campuses are that big! It is possible to learn where roughly every room is and then use the room numbers by the doors to count down to where your room is. It will take a bit of exploring to find every crevice but certainly worth it, so you never get lost! You could do this with friends and treat it like an adventure!

If that doesn’t sound like you, then the other two options are probably for you. And don’t worry if you ever get a little lost – I’ve been here for more than 3 years and I get lost almost every day!
