GETTING PERSONAL | PLASTIC FREE JULY | WEEK THREE
This week we’re getting personal for Plastic Free July. There are a lot of changes you can consider with regards to which products you use on your body and they go a long way to helping cut down on plastic.
You can consider using bars of soap instead of plastic bottles when washing your hands, and shampoo or conditioner bars for washing your hair. Lush have a great selection of these, but you can also get soap bars in a lot of high street shops and online.
Remember your grandma’s hankie? Consider investing in your own set instead of plastic wrapped tissues, they will last you a long time and save you money in the long run.
Bamboo toothbrushes mean you only throw the bristles away instead of a plastic stick. The bamboo handle can be put in your compost. And one member of SU staff had the fantastic idea to decorate the brushes with his family and turn it into a fun DIY activity.
If you really want to challenge yourself why not give up smoking. Filters contain plastic so why not kick the habit for your health and the earth as your plastic promise for July.
And finally, there are a lot of sustainable products that you can consider swapping to if you menstruate. We actually have a whole article about it! If you would like to take a look, you can find it here: https://www.essexstudent.com/news/article/13535/Eco-Friendly-Period-Products-Tried-and-Tested-by-SU-Staff/.
