Your SU Education Team exist solely for the purpose of supporting Essex students throughout their time at Essex.

We have put together this handy little guide to help you understand our role and how we can support you throughout your journey through University.

The VP Education – Our leader!

The VP Education is the elected officer who oversees students’ views on all things education at Essex.

One of the main roles of the job is to represent students viewpoints at a range of meetings including Senate and Education Committee (this is where all the big decisions that affect students academic experiences are made).

Our amazing Convenors…

Supporting the VP Education on a range of committees are our student Convenors.

These students come from each of the 3 faculties (Humanities, Social Sciences and Science and Health) and represent the viewpoints of students across the different departments. We also have a post graduate convenor who ensures the voice of masters and PHD students is heard.

Hundreds of student reps

Across the entire University (and on all 3 campuses) we also have hundreds of student reps.

Their key objective is to gather and share feedback with the University to improve the educational experiences for our 16,000 members. Their role is vital as the information they share will be taken directly to various committees by the VP Education.

They also have a direct link to their departments through attendance at student Voice Groups.

If you want something changed speak to your student rep or even better sign up to be a rep for your department here.

Full time staff

This amazing team is ably supported by group in full time staff who recruit, train and support reps, and assist the VP Education with the reading of papers and lobbying of change!
