We held the 2nd Student Parliament of the year on 8th Dec.  Student Parliament meets once a month and is made up of elected representatives from a variety of communities. The three campus parliaments meet as a group, before splitting into their separate campus parliament groups. Student Parliament has the power to implement SU policies and hold your elected officials accountable. It is also an opportunity to highlight and discuss other issues that relate to the communities represented.

On the 8th Dec, Parliament heard updates from all the sabbatical officers about their work and the work being done on the big plan. The president also discussed the recent referendum and outlined how they intended to take this forward both with the university and on a national level.

They then voted to renew the Love and support students with mental health policy, and amended and renewed the Liberation budgets policy to ensure that money for these students is ringfenced.

A new policy was brought to Parliament by the sabbatical team, changing the focus of the VP International’s role to project managing the Big plan going forward. This was agreed and will come into force immediately.

The meeting then split into Southend, Colchester and Loughton Parliament meetings. They discussed issues relevant to their campuses.

This was the last meeting before the Christmas break, if you would like to know more about Parliament or the work it does please drop us a line at or visit the Parliament webpage.

The next meeting is scheduled for 26th January. Please contact or your representative if there is something you would like Parliament to look at.
