If you love singing and having fun then this society is for you. The Choir Socitey has 2 different groups, one formal, and one small, and relaxed. You can sing in one or both!
The formal University of Essex Choir is a large choral society open to everyone- students, staff and anyone in and around Colchester who can make it to rehearsals- where well known choral pieces are sung. The Choir performs two concerts a year at amazing venues such as the Snape Maltings Theatre singing with world renowned orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The Choir rehearses once a week, every Thursday, from 7:00pm-9:30pm in LTB 6/7.
In order to join a small voice test must be completed with the conductor. It's nothing terrifying, nothing has to be prepared in advance, the conductor just has to check your pitching and decide which voice part you belong in.
Joining Small Choir (as we call it) is a great way to make friends who are also part of Choir Society. It is student based and run so we have free reign to sing whatever we like and enjoy singing. From pop to musicals, even more traditional stuff if we like, it's completely up to us!
Whether formal choir isn't for you or you just want to spend more time with students in the other voice parts, singing in Small Choir is a great way to enhance your life at Essex as a student and find a community where you belong. We have weekly socials/sessions every Wednesday from 6pm-8pm and usually head over to Top Bar afterwards for more fun!
There are NO AUDITIONS. Just come along to sessions and have fun!
So whatever your music taste or skill level, we have a group for you! Whether you are an experienced singer or just enjoy singing in the shower, Choir Society can't wait to meet you!
There aren't any elections running right now
