MAKE SH*T HAPPEN

GOT AN IDEA?

Essex SU is run for students, by students. You can shape your time at Essex in many ways, one is by submitting ideas and if students support this idea, working with the SU to make it happen.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
  1. You submit an idea
  2. Talk to the SU about the idea and decide if its feasible.
  3. SU Staff assess the idea and categorise it as:
    • Short: this should require less time and resources and is completely within the SU’s control to fix
    • Medium: requires slightly less time and resources to achieve. The SU will commit to spending a term working on this project
    • Long: requires lots of time. The SU will commit to spending a year working on this project
  4. Your idea is added to the website for discussion by students
  5. Your idea is voted on by students
    • Short: Needs 5% of the affected student body to be in favour. The idea is open for voting for a full term or until it hits quoracy.
    • Medium: Needs 10% of the affected student body to be in favour. The idea is open for voting until the end of term.
    • Long: Needs 20% of student body to be in favour. The idea is open for voting until the last day of term 3.
  6. If your idea reaches the quota and is one of the most popular we can work on delivering it

Run a showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show with participation opportunities - Short Term

    Current
Since coming here, I've been wanting to organize a screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Back in the states at my undergraduate college, we used to host this every year and it would attract large crowds. My idea for this project would be in October to host a sex-positive event that culminates in screening the film in all its glory (a full shadow cast acting alongside the film and the audience participating and shouting along with the film). Before the film, we would host sex-positive games and have various student performances. And of course, we'd encourage everyone to come dressed up for the party. It could be a wonderful chance to not only have fun, but start conversations at the beginning of the year on sexual consent and the resources available on campus. Furthermore, it's a great social opportunity and one that should attract many students, especially within the LGBTQ+ community. We could host this in the SU bar or a similar venue like The In-between. For more information on Rocky Horror Screenings, I recommend this site which gives a good idea of what an event could look like: https://www.rockyhorror.com/participation/
