Week 3 saw 362 brave Essex souls battle the weather conditions as Storm Babet hit the UK.  We were fortunate that only two matches were cancelled due to the rain.

With 36 matches played (16 home and 20 away), Essex Blades came away with 20 wins, 2 draws and 14 losses. With a 65% away win rate (versus a 38% away win rate this time last year), Essex were back to winning ways, which is encouraging, given the high number of teams that are now playing in higher divisions due to promotions last season.

Highlights include:

  • Rugby Union Men’s 1st beating Kings College 1st 38-7 away.
  • Football Women’s 2nd beating Reading Women’s 3rd 10-1 away.
  • All 4 Basketball teams won including Men’s 2nd beating Portsmouth 124-50 away.
  • All 4 volleyball teams winning (against Surrey, UEL, Bournemouth and Cambridge).
  • Tennis Men’s 1st and Women’s 2nd delivering Bagels (6-0) against UEL and Brighton.
  • Hockey Women’s 2nd team beating Writtle 1st 15-0 at home.
